I am asian, with straight black hair. Compared to my friends, it's wiry. It feels like string. My mom has the same kind of hair too. Is it just genetics? Is there a way to fix it, or is it never going to change? Just in case you need to know, I use Aussie Moist Shampoo but I'm changing to Herbal Essences Hello Hydration. I use Herbal Essences Body Envy conditioner.
Wiry, stringy, coarse hair?
Asian women do indeed tend to have a more coarse hair texture. Even though I'm not Asian, I have very coarse hair myself, and mine is veerrry thick. It's a pain to deal with. I would suggest hydrating the heck out of your hair using both hydrating shampoos and conditioners and hydrating and conditioning treatments. Some good ones are olive or coconut (found online for cheap if you want to look for it. It works very well and I like the scent better than the olive.) oil warmed and left on the hair anytime from a couple hours to overnight and then washed out when you shower like normal. If you're going to purchase a hydrating treatment from a drugstore, I have a suggestion for you based on experience. Before you buy, look at the ingredients label on the back. The ingredients listed are ordered from most used to least. If the product has an alcohol in the first two lines or so of the ingredients list, don't buy it. Alcohol dries hair out in the long run. I bought Aussie 3 min. miracle deep for example, and it did next to nothing for my hair. Sure enough, there were two alcohols in the first four ingredients alone! Waste of money there. Good luck!

The first two lines thing was just a guesstimation. Really, I'd say to check the first five or six ingredients for alcohols. Glad I could help. Report It

My hair is like that too, I think I got it from my dad. I hate when people touch my hair now because at school people used to touch it and say stuff like it wasn't real hair. But I use henna on it and just condition it really well so it at least looks shiny and nice, even if it feels coarse. One good thing is that my hair is very strong, I've put it through a lot, bleaching, straightening, blow drying, dyeing, and it's still pretty strong.
