My sister has brownish hair?

OK so my family is Asian. My dad, bro, and I all got black hair but my mom and sister got brownish hair. Every time when people see their hair, they always ask if they got highlights or something but its natural. Where did these reddish brown highlights come from? Why don't I have them? =P A lot of Asians have fake brown or red highlights but my my mom and sister have natural ones meaning they will always grow it.

They may have gotten an uncommon trait. I forget what it's called, but if I remember, I'll let you know. It's not like a disese or something, its normal.

It's all in genetics, maybe some of your ancestors had brown hair or were of an ethnicity that usually has brown hair...that's actually quite common =)

It was probably a dominent gene that they inherited from someone in your family. I bet if you look back in your history, someone will have hair like your sister and mother. You might have that hair gene too, but it's recessive. That means that you have the gene for that type of hair, it just doesn't show up because your black hair gene is dominant. If you have kids, it's possible they could have the redish brown hair color.

could be a long distance relative because hair genes can be passed down from parents w/ out showing up until it randomly pops up in whoever its passed to.its like when their were these twins and when they were born one baby was white and another black!! for real. so they traced their heritage and their like great great great grandfather cheated on their grandma w/ their black maid and darker skin colored gene has been passed ever since. hope that helps!!

I have noticed that sometimes asian people have brown hair...

for example actress Song Hye Kyo...

once I have seen her picture,

and her hair was completely brown (even light brown)

I was very surprised, it looked almost like mine hehe

if you ever have seen the movie "House of Flying Dagger"

Zhiyi Zhang (in the final scene) has such light hair!!!

and I am sure she did not have any highlights!

because in interview she said that she has done it only once

and it was very-very dark black...

so, maybe it is some recessive gene...
