Best products for taming uncontrollable hair?

My hair is stubborn. I'm asian (just to categorize which type of hair I have) and my hair is about 2.5-3 inches long. I want to be able to comb it down instead of having this sort of poof in my hair. Mind you, it isn't like an actual "poof", but it's sort of not.. flat. Another thing is that, it seldom follows the type of hairstyle I want to. It's like the hair is fixed on one direction and one direction only, so when I try to comb it on a different side, it always tries to revert back to it's normal side.

What kind of hair products can I use so when I want to style it, it gets a flimsy, pretty limp look to it and it ACTUALLY follows the direction I comb it to? I'm talking about BOTH washing and styling prodcuts. What kind of shampoos and conditioners as well as what to style it with, etc.

I used to have hair problems as well, but then I started using Garnier and I love it. They have different types of hair styling products and hair types. My hair is frizzy...so I use a defrizzer and a volumizer and it works great. I love the stuff. What's also nice, you can buy it and it's not super expensive.

I think Redken's Smooth Down Shampoo and Condition helps to tame some of the frizziness. Also Redken's All Soft Shampoo and Conditioner makes your hair really soft and manageable.

For a styling product I would use something that has some hold to it, such as a gel or paste, but only use this when your hair is wet for added hold. Either Redken's rewind 06 pliable styling paste or rough paste 12 working material should help.
