My hair always sticks up due to the way my barber cuts it, how should i get it cut so it stays down?

i am asian and have thick hair so i know that my hair is going to stick up, but my brother has the same hair and the way he gets it cut looks nicer. it is hard to reach him so if any of you know the answer to this, let me know
