Hey guys, well I want to change my hair color and I was thinking of getting all dyed but I want to try out highlights instead. I'm Thai (Asian), so I want it to look really nice, subtle, but at the same time you can notice it as well. I dont want to have it crazy and all over the place...soo, deep red or brown? it's going to be my first time doing this, so how much will you think it will cost and how much do you tip the hairstylist?

Go for a dark plum red/burgundy. This will be beautiful with your skin tone and very complimentary. Tell your hairdresser that you want between 2 - 3 levels of lift, only.
If you go with partial highlights, just on the top of your head with a heavier concentration around your face, it's about 1/2 the price as a full head. You can probably get partial highlights for $40 - $60.
I always tip my hairdresser 20%.

Not really clear pictures. But in my opinion, I'd most likely go with the deep red, (auburn) color.

I think you should have both rich brown and red highlights. If you go to a good place, a partial will cost you like $65 and a whole head highlight will cost you over $100.

Darker reds will look a lot more flattering with the black than browns will!

Yes brown and red highlights look very nice on black hair but i would have to go with brown on some cases if your hair is like pitch black it should have deep red ones it also depends on the hairstylist you go to so maybe about 40-60 dollars or maybe even more depending on how you get it and the hairstylist should be tipped at least from 5-25 dollars or more if you would like to give that much.

i've always thought asians that have your color hair which appears to be a very dark brown and not black - look good with ash brown highlights. they are not warm with "orange or red undertones" but more like ash grey/blonde brown. I really don't like the asian with "orange/red" highlight look. You'll have to bleach strands to a very light color (past yellow) and then have someone put toning shades on those bleached strands to make them appear ash/brown/blonde.
you'll look amazing and they won't look crazy and wild. they'll look subtle and hip.

You should get chocolate browns in your hair. It would compliment your eyes. Red highlights actually tend to look like you're trying too hard and they look a little bit tacky. Go with the brown to look sleek.

a dark red will look amazing pretty much all it will do is give you a subtle tint to your hair
as far as dying your hair
you have amazing hair it is absolutely gorgeous and i wish i had it
depending on how much you like the hair color of the job done you tip differently
i would say..........20 percent if you REALLY like it, they were nice, attentive ect
and 1=10-15 if the job was unsatisfactory
you have thick hair so whatever the sign says about how much a dye will cost ithe total will end up being about 20 dollars more because they will complaign about how much dye it took to dye your hair
that is the downside to having amazing hair

I'm asian too and I love my highlights! I only started getting this done last year. I wanted something natural and not too dramatic just like you. I started with going two shades lighter (brown), but it was not noticeable. I have since been going three shades lighter. I've gotten compliments on how well the color looks on me and how it compliments my skin color. I'm not a fan of the red highlights because that's just not attractive or natural to me. I only do partial highlights and my stylist charges $30.

I think light brown or dark red...anything that is bright/shiny because it will really light up your face and make your skin appear lighter/fresh
